Happy Valentines Day! Today I hope you're all holding on to the person you love! If you're single - treat your self to some wine and chocolate. Hang out with your best buds and just enjoy the day of indulgence!
What was your inspiration behind the shoot and the use of light?
If it’s not totally noticeable, the inspiration behind the shoot was Valentines Day. The shoot was mainly for fun, but I also wanted to show future couples, especially ones like me who get a bit extra around the holidays, that they can do absolutely anything they want on their wedding day.
I shot in a local art studio, and used the natural light that was coming in the front windows. The studio was still in construction, but I love how it gave the cutesy decor an edgier vibe.
How did you prepare your clients for this type of session?
I had photographed them and their daughter before, so we were already comfortable around each other. I also invited them to my inspiration board from day one and gave them a heads up that I was going to use the shoot to experiment with some new techniques.
What techniques did you use that were out of the norm?
This was my first attempt at creating double exposures. I failed pretty much every time, but I would show the couple and we’d all laugh and try again.
Any advice to other clients or photographers who want to do this type of shoot?
My advice to other photographers would be to look for inspiration in unordinary places or things and to not be too hard on yourself when/if some of your ideas fail. Keep experimenting.
